Curious though, are there any fruit bearing females in this group? If you've ever been around one when the fruit drops, you'll know why I'm asking! The leaves are some of the most beautiful, IMHO, nevertheless. Comments:1. no--none of these are females! in fact, there are a lot of ginkgos in this area and neighborhood that are male (thank god). It seems as though the developer who was builind the houses at the time (maybe the 20s and 30s) got a good deal on ginkgos and bald cypress--that is what is most prevalent near to the park. DC is the worst for ginkgo fruit smell. I thought it was just the drunk college kids in Adams-Morgan, but no, it was the ginkgos. I almost slipped on their fruits the other day. oddly enough there was no smell. Posted 2 weeks, 4 days ago by Miriam Goldberg (miriam) |
