This _Dracaena_ is commonly called 'Lucky Bamboo'. It is NOT a bamboo at all. Bamboo is in the Poaceae, the grass family. The genus _Dracaena_ is more closely related to agaves than to grasses. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dracaena_(plant) for more information about the genus _Dracaena_.
