A view looking south over the beautiful sandy beach, from the small jetty. But what did I do wrong to get the curve and cracks in the stitching?

I think there are two issues here. First, there are the splits in the bottom of the image. I believe the existence of splits is caused by insufficient horizontal overlap which means the stitcher has been unable to identify matching features, and this in turn has caused the right-hand end of the pano to 'flick up'. Have a look at the original images to see how much overlap there is - the stitcher notes report the overlap is a little as 0.7%. All sorts of mad things happen when there is insufficient overlap for the gigapan stitcher. Eg http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=20116. The second issue is the sweeping curve of the pano. I don't know what causes this but I have noticed it in some very wide panos - i.e. ones shot with a very small step size. It could be a bug in the stitcher, or it could be that in order to get the projection correct for viewing in Google Earth, all panoramas are slightly curved like this. It is only when the pano is very large that we can actually see it. I have asked the stitcher team about this but I have yet to hear back. Here is one of my recent panos with the same 'problem': http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=24064. And here is another with it in spades: http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=15901. Check out the largest panos to see similar problems (click on 'Most Popular' then click on 'sort by size' - there is at least one with splits like yours). HTH
