Note: an earlier GigaPan, http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=30905 , did not include the panoramic view of Pasadena and the Houston Ship Channelarea as does this panorama.
Taken from the 24th floor of Hilton Americas Hotel: http://tinyurl.com/2og9ru
An stunning view of Houston from Galena Park and the Houston Ship Channel area westward to the heart of the downtown area, especially so since there are two pillars not shown in this panorama, but yet the view can almost be considered seamless except that the railing shows where there should be a pillar(s).
The GigaPan Stitcher comes though with flying colors on this one.
The view, taken from the 24th floor and was breathtaking as I took it using my trusty Nikon D70 (soon to be retired) and a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 lens. There is no Photoshop on this panorama, only the GigaPan Stitcher, and the collection of photos were taken hand-held.

This is a superb shot and a superb gigapan. I am a total sucker for US city skylines and this one's a peach! Of course we don't have comparable vies in the UK - views like this make me think of Bladrunner. Please please please go back and retake this with your gigapan imager and your SX110! Lots more like this please! Posted by Kilgore661 |

I assure you that I could not have taken this except for taking it hand-held. If I were to take it with a tripod and a GigaPan imager, I would have to have the columns in the panorama and would not get the view as I present here in this panorama. I went up to the top and some dude was going into the area through a locked door that only hotel guests can enter. I enetered with him and walked past the swiming pool out onto the terrace, saw the plane and took a few photos, then looked around and decided to take the front where the railing is. I then climbed up on top of a barrier on each side where I could lean out a bit to take the side views and I fear that the people around me at first though I was climbing up there to jump (I was only a few inches from this could have happened) , but no one said anything and I left. I did not know how good this really was until I saw that I had some matches and did the stitch and was pretty happy with the results. Posted by Texas_Photo |

I think gigapan.org ought to pay for you to spend a night as a guest at the Hilton so that you can shoot this again with the SX110 and include a few more rows. You have already shown that you can take multi-row, multi-column images by hand and without a tripod (eg http://tinyurl.com/l63avx). The columns shouldn't be too much of a problem.Just mention that you have been commissioned by an organisation that is sponsored by NASA, UNESCO and National Geographic and uses the same leading-edge technology that was used to make an image of the President and got 10 million hits. I am sure the manager will arrange to have the columns removed for you. Posted by Kilgore661 |

I may make the attempt to return to take the same view but with the SX110 and wear the T-Shirt I have that is similar to this: http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=29567&snapshot_id=90409 and this one too: http://gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=25030&snapshot_id=75900 but am not too excited about standing on those two ledges as I did before. If I do it, it will be more than 27 stitched photos as this one is. Posted by Texas_Photo |
