This is a two-block-long area in the lower East Side of Detroit (about five minutes from Downtown) where one man, Tyree Guyton, installed artwork on a house across from his where crack dealers were set up. The artwork brought so much attention that the dealers left. The project has since become a vehicle for transforming the neighborhood, its youth, and community life. The Heidelberg Project (www.heidelberg.org) is a Detroit-based community organization designed to improve lives and neighborhoods through art.
