The Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility at Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale houses a fleet of NASA airplanes: Gulfstream III N803NA, Beechcraft Super King Air N7NA, Boeing 747SP N747NA Stratospheric Observatory For Infra-red Astronomy (SOFIA), Douglas DC-8-72 N817NA, Lockheed ER-2 N809NA, and Boeing 747-SCA N911NA Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. Even shooting with white balance set to Tungsten, the lighting in the DAOF was very yellow so I assembled this black & white version. |

NASA's 747SP N747NA, the Stratospheric Observatory For Infra-red Astronomy (SOFIA) is housed in the newly dedicated Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility. An infra-red telescope will look out through the large opening of the fuselage. The 747SP will carry the telescope above most of the water vapor in the atmosphere to provide a clear view of space. Even shooting with white balance set to Tungsten, the lighting in the DAOF was very yellow so I assembled a black & white version of the panorama.. |

The PH-BUK (a 747-206B SUD) made it's last flight on november 17th 2003 and was presented to Aviodrome by the KLM for the symbolic amount of € 1,-. It was transported by water and road to the Aviodrome in 2004. Now it is on permanent display in the museum.
