Fair Park is a National Historic Landmark and boasts the largest collection of art deco exposition buildings in the United States. Big Tex Big Tex made his debut at the 1952 State Fair of Texas. Wearing size 70 boots and a 75-gallon hat, Tex towered 52' above wide-eyed visitors. His denim jeans and plaid shirt were donated by the H. D. Lee Company of Shawnee Mission, Kansas. Cosmetic surgery the following year straightened his nose, corrected a lascivious wink and allowed him to talk. From The Great State Fair of Texas – An Illustrated History, by Nancy Wiley. HISTORY: The first State Fair to be held in Dallas was presented at this location in 1886. This is the dock at Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. Located at the extreme south of South America, Ushuaia serves as a port for many ships bound for Antarctica. Other popular destinations for these vessels include South Georgia, The Falkland Islands, The South Orkney Islands and the South Sandwich Islands. You see ships of considerably different sizes in this photograph. Some of them are essentially posh hotels sailing on salt water. Ours, the Professor Multanovskiy, is especially well-suited for real adventures in the Southern Ocean. If you are fortunate enough to explore the polar regions in this vessel, don't forget your sunscreen, but you can probably leave your black tie at home. The 23 images for this panorama were taken with a Nikon D80 and stitched with Autopano Pro. |

Spencer did Kung Fu with his bamboo sticks from the Iao valley (they later seized his sticks in security :-( This image turned out almost exactly as I visualized it...a win for our side!

Puerto Colombia, Colombia, South America. It was the main port during the end of the 19th century and early 20th century in Colombia and third largest port in the world for a period of time after it was build.
It stop working as a port in 1947 when all operations moved to the nearest city of Barranquilla, in the Caribbean coast of Colombia. My grandfather, a german photographer, arrived to this port in 1933 on board the vessel "Codillera". This is the only know panorama of this magnificent bay before the pier collapsed during a storm on March 7, 2009. It survived 116 years after designed by Cuban Civil Engineer and Architect Francisco Javier Cisneros. This pier was the pride of Colombia for a period of time, since at a point it was considered the 3rd largest pier in the world. A true piece of engineering accomplishment for a the young South American nation. It is little known fact that many immigrants looking for oportunities and a new life in the new continent, saw land for the very first time at this spot, after spending weeks crossing the ocean. Through this port came: Germans, Americans, Jews, Lebanese, French, Brits, Dutch, Spaniards, Italians and many other nationalities whose citizens helped develop the country and left an unforgettable memory by destining part of their lives, traditions and cultural baggage in this magic part of the world. I was thinking about every single one of them when doing this project and this is my visual tribute... ~Rodrigo Blanco This image was shot with a Nikon D2X RAW Format, using a 17-55mm Nikon ED ƒ2.8 lens, with a focal length of 40.0mm, ISO 200, ƒ/16, 1/160" on Sunday May 27, 2007, at 11:28 AM GMT-5:00. There are 10 images stitched using Photoshop CS4 Photo Merging. |

El tercer pabellón que forma parte del conjunto de la Plaza de América. Tal vez el menos vistoso, casi oculto entre arboles, pero representa otro estilo arquitectónico, el gótico.

The Cathedral of Junk is the brainchild of Austin visionary Vince Hannemann. He began assembling the interconnected mass in his backyard 1989 and it is now a 3 stories tall, multi-room, multi-level igloo. It contains more than 700 bikes, numerous shopping carts, hubcaps, golf clubs, skis, and even a kitchen sink! It is this kind of funky yard art that helps "Keep Austin Weird"! |
