Olympic Gold Medalist Shaun White throws it extreme on his run for X-Games 13 in Aspen Colorado, January 25, 2009.
My mother did not understand when she viewed this, so I will explain, EVERYBODY IN THE PIPE IS SHAUN WHITE. |

Taken with a 500mm mirror lens, which has excessive vignetting unfortunately. But the details is really good! |

Spectacular Spring day with lots of backcountry skiers in Aspen highcountry out dodging the avalanches |

Aspen Highlands Maroon Bowl on Closing Day, 2009. Ed Armstrong Speed-Fly's Maroon Bowl. Speed-Flying is like paragliding, but the kite is much smaller and therefore the speed is much higher. You use skiis to get enough speed for takeoff. Its a pretty radical and exciting sport only practiced by a few.
Maroon Bowl is on the backside of the Fantastic Highlands Bowl at Aspen Highlands Ski Resort. It is in the backcountry and has significant risks including a river to cross at the bottom, but the turns are sweet. Some of the best light a photographer could ask for... well worth delaying breakfast a little while. |

This is a restitch using images that have first been anti-vingnetted. It is shot with a 500mm Samyang mirror lens on a Gigapan Beta unit on Nikon D200. |

A very very windy day on top of Baldy Mountain, at 13,300 feet. My friend Ed and I hiked up here so he could fly down on his speed kite, but it was far too windy, blowing at 50mph (it was calm when we left a couple hours before, and from 6000 feet lower...) I had to wedge the tripod into the peak rock pile to keep the gigapan unit from blowing away, then we went and hid from the wind under the snowbank. Taking the glove off momentarily to connect the Gigapan power and the thumb screw on the camera was painful. You cant see the aspect we skied down, it is from the top of the large mound behind us. It was steep and solid, a wonderful backcountry day, although Ed did no flying. The Gigapan unit caught lift at the end of the serious, causing the camera to point to the sky and missing the final four columns. The stitcher still decided to join them but four columns are indeed missing. |

Cathedral Lake panaroma taken near Aspen, Colorado. Many lichens are visible with a close inspection of the surrounding boulders. The trail over electric pass is visible above to the right of the lake. |
|
Taken from the start of a 10 minute gondola ride and finishes to the right at the top, each image was four seconds apart. The stitcher did an amazing job considering that the outside scenery was changing so rapidly. Kind of David Hockney like. I ran out of time to have the full 360 as I did not factor in the other time between shots beyond the 'Time Per Pic' and only made it 75% around before reaching the summit... The D200 performs great on the Gigapan mount, this was done with a 60mm lens with aperature shut down small. |
