London at Night, taken from the South Bank Centre. Big Ben and the London Eye can be seen on the left, whilst the Royal Air Force Memorial, crowned by Sir William Reid Dick’s gilt eagle, can be seen in the centre of the GigaPan. There are numerous other hidden details to be discovered here.

Can you find the number of miles of cable it took to build the bridge? Speed limit on the bridge? Alcatraz? |

Charles Bridge (Czech: Karlů) is a famous historical bridge that crosses the Vltava river in Prague, Czech Republic. Its construction started in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV, and finished in the beginning of 15th century. As the only means of crossing the river Vltava (Moldau), the Charles Bridge used to be the most important connection between the Old Town, Prague Castle and adjacent areas until 1841. Also this 'solid-land' connection made Prague important as a trade route between east and west Europe. The bridge was originally called the Stone Bridge (Kamenný most) or the Prague Bridge (Pražský most) but has been the "Charles Bridge" since 1870.
The bridge is 516 meters long and nearly 10 meters wide, resting on 16 arches shielded by ice guards. It is protected by three bridge towers, two of them on the Lesser Quarter side and the third one on the Old Town side. The Old Town bridge tower is often considered to be one of the most astonishing civil gothic-style buildings in the world. The bridge is decorated by a continuous alley of 30 statues and statuaries, most of them baroque-style, erected around 1700. 220 images at focal length of 400mm, at ISO 200, F8, 1/125, in the morning at 6:30 Any commercial use or publication of the image, in whole or in part, without prior written authorization of the copyright holder is strictly prohibited. |

The Royal Gorge Bridge is a tourist attraction near Cañon City, Colorado, within a 360 acre (1.5 km²) theme park, hanging 1,053 feet (321 m) above the Arkansas River and billed as the highest suspension bridge in the world. The Royal Gorge Route Railroad runs under the bridge along the base of Royal Gorge. The bridge is 1260 feet (384 m) long and 18 feet (5 m) wide, with a wooden walkway with 1292 planks. The bridge is suspended from towers that are 150 feet (46 m) high.
The panorama is made of 480 pictures at focal length of 400mm. Due to file size limitations I have uploaded a smaller version only. Any commercial use or publication of the image, in whole or in part, without prior written authorization of the copyright holder is strictly prohibited. |

This Gigapan was taken at an elevation of 200ft above sea level, from the Twin Lights Lighthouse in Highlands, New Jersey. The nearby Mt. Mitchell Scenic Overlook is at an elevation of 266 ft and is the highest place on the eastern seaboard, between southern Maine and the Yucatan in Mexico!
Sandy Hook is the seven mile sand peninsula in the foreground that jutes out into Raritan Bay south of New York. A unit of the Gateway National Recreation Area and part of the National Parks of New York Harbor, it also includes Fort Hancock, a disused miltary base. Check out the snapshots and you can see the Statue of Liberty over 20 miles away, the Verrazano Narrows Bridge between Staten Island and Brooklyn, the Empire State Building in Manhattan and the Parachute Ride and the Wonder Wheel on Cooney Island! This Gigapan was taken using a Nikon D300 with a Tokina 80-400mm at 400mm (600mm 35mm equivalent). For more Gigapans of Sandy Hook see http://gigapan.org/gigapans/most_popular/?q=brianlr+sandy+hook |

Left is the Forth Road Bridge. When it opened in the early 1960s it was the largest suspension bridge in Europe, and the 4th largest in the world. Now it carries vehicles to/from the Kingdom of Fife into the Edinburgh area. Right is the very beautiful Forth (rail) Bridge - a testament to Scottish engineering in the Victorian era. Once described as the most overly-engineered structure in the world, it is a potent symbol for the people of Scotland. We love it. n.b. it is undergoing maintenance work just now, hence the shrouding. Apolgies to all Giga-Pan folk in the States, but this knocks spots off your Golden Gate Bridge - and before you ask, yes I've crossed them both. |

Another in the series. I'm still looking for super definition and keen to process this in photoshop to adjust contrast (see GP22 and GP10) and to crop the edges but sadly the stitcher doesn't make this possible (Shortly after this I found out how to do it). see http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=26462 )and will delete the less clear versions eventually. See the bridge close up at http://share.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=27070 and the view from the top of Wills Tower at http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=27250 Balloon fiesta shot of the bridge is at http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=30205 and mass balloon launch at http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=30355 360degree shot from Wills Tower is at http://www.gigapan.org/gigapans/33892/ |

This is a gigapan I took from the Rankin Bridge of Braddock, PA. It was taken right before the torrential downpour that flooded Millvalle and reportedly produced a tornado that touched down in downtown Pittsburgh. The before-the-rain-haze might not make such a good photo, huh?

The San Francisco – Oakland Bay Bridge is unique by the fact the bridge goes into and through an island. The Yerba Buena tunnel disects through Treasure Island and is the midpoint of the bridge. Forming part of Interstate 80 and of the direct road route between San Francisco and Oakland, it carries approximately 270,000 vehicles per day on its two decks. It has one of the longest spans in the world. Shown in this panorama is the portion of the bridge from San Francisco into Treasure Island. Not seen in this panorama is the 2nd portion of the bridge which spans from Treasure Island to Oakland. The Bay Bridge opened for traffic on November 12, 1936, six months before the Golden Gate Bridge. |
