This attempt sadly cut off the top of the bridge and the camera obscura so I'll be back when the light is right. A cloud scudded by too, making that dark patch to the right of centre. British weather is so unreliable!!! Clifton Bridge spans the river Avon and connects the City of Bristol to Leigh Woods in Somerset. It was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and completed after his death in 1864. He won a competition to design a bridge here, but because the powers that be didn't believe that such a span could be built, he had to build a brick abutment on the Leigh Woods side to reduce the span. The chains used were second hand having been used on the original Hungerford bridge over the Thames in London. The river here is tidal although the sea (Bristol Channel) is over 5 miles downstream. This is why the water is kept in Bristol Docks by lock gates (the floating harbour) otherwise all craft ended up resting on the mud at low tide. They had to have extra strong hulls hence the phrase "shipshape and Bristol fashion!'See:http://share.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=27492 for a distant view from Dundry Balloons over the bridge at http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=30355

This 180 was taken with my Gigapan and G9 on a sunny and unseasonably warm January afternoon. The view is looking north from Sarah's bridge (48th street) on the west side of Denver's Globeville neighborhood. Directly ahead is a concrete manufacturing plant, to the Northwest is a portion of the Denver's rail yards, to the Northeast is majestic Long's Peak. I hope you'll have fun exploring this densely packed 888 megapixel Gigapan. |

A very cool and unsung view of the city. The Parks Conservancy is working with Find the Rivers! and other community groups to develop a "greenprint" for the Hill District. Part of the project is creating an overlook on this site. |

The Indian River at the Melbourne Causeway. Shot with aperture priority to accent the clouds. I really need to just break down and buy a polarizing filter one of these days. |

The Royal Gorge Bridge is a tourist attraction near Cañon City, Colorado, within a 360 acre (1.5 km²) theme park, hanging 1,053 feet (321 m) above the Arkansas River and billed as the highest suspension bridge in the world. The Royal Gorge Route Railroad runs under the bridge along the base of Royal Gorge. The bridge is 1260 feet (384 m) long and 18 feet (5 m) wide, with a wooden walkway with 1292 planks. The bridge is suspended from towers that are 150 feet (46 m) high.
The panorama is made up of 500 pictures at focal length of 600mm. |
