Another in the series. I'm still looking for super definition and keen to process this in photoshop to adjust contrast (see GP22 and GP10) and to crop the edges but sadly the stitcher doesn't make this possible (Shortly after this I found out how to do it). see http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=26462 )and will delete the less clear versions eventually. A shot on an overcast day of Bristol floating harbour, looking down on The SS Great Britain (The first iron hulled, screw propellor driven liner) designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Next to it is the Matthew, a replica of the ship in which John Cabot sailed on his discovery of North America in 1497. The harbour is called the "floating harbour" because the river here is tidal and the water is held in by locks. I forgot to set this to save as a tiff so that I could make adjustments and it took so long to stitch that it will have to wait. This shot is 600 superfine, large JPEGs and took 15 hours to stitch. I seem to be getting better and working at the lowest iso rating with no image stabilisation has greatly improved the definition. A shot twice as wide, taking in much more of the harbour, is in the offing when we get the next sunny day!! Here is the first attempt http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=27418 |

Cabot Circus is the new shopping centre in Bristol. It opened just as the recession started in October 2008 but it seems to be getting lots of business. I tried to take a supermegagigapan of 1500 shots for this but the sun came out half way through and ruined the exposure so I stopped it. I will get a complete one before long though . Perseverence is the word. Oh! and fully charged batteries and a big enough SD card!!!!! I'm puzzled at the data given here as the field of view is about 120degrees by my reckoning. Stitching of the glass roof is pretty messy too. This was taken in horizontal rows of 50 shots, shooting from top to bottom. See later version http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=29696 |

This new shopping centre, opened in 2008 has become a huge success. Top shops such as Apple, Harvey Nicholls etc have moved into the city. Lots to spot in this one! See also http://gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=29552

Bristol from Dundry hill looking north towards the Bristol Channel.
I have cropped and adjusted contrast to cut through the haze. Camera is Canon SX1 IS , 125 pictures are stitched to make this picture. A little hazy still but I'm watching the visibility and will be back when Wales is crisp and clear!! This small Gigapan is only 7x 12 pics as I was pushed for time and the weather kept changing so I went with a much wider lens setting to speed up the shooting. See the much bigger one of 880 pics when I eventually upload it. It could take many hours to stitch and load. This is the tiff version after cropping. See later version http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=29696 and 360 degree exterior of Bristol at http://www.gigapan.org/gigapans/33892/ |
