Quick view on Malibu lake. No tripod, the post treatment was difficult because no panoramic head... |

The Palace of Fine Arts is located in the Marina district at the edge of the Presidio near the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco, Ca For history of the structure http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palace_of_Fine_Arts The capture of this panorama covered a larger area with multiple exposure brackets. I will need to examine the file to determine if I am able to stitch the entire capture. |

San Francisco from Treasure Island at Night. I wish that I had taken a gigapan of the sunset that night instead of eating dinner. It was an absolutely beautiful sunset, but I was hungry and had not eaten since 10am that morning. I looked for a way to photograph this from Yerba Buena island, but it is difficult find a location with an unobstructed view without permission from another party. I used a collapsible portrait reflector as a shield against occasional gusts of wind. I also positioned the tripod with a large tree on the other side to guard against wind gusts from the other direction. I will definitely return to make another attempt. You can see Alcatraz island to the right. I brought the blacks level up some, so the Golden Gate bridge on the right is diminished to highlights. The Palace of fine arts is most likely behind the trees with the spot light shinging up at an angle at the edge of the Presidio in the marina district. |

A panorama of the Golden Gate Bridge from the north side from Hendrik point at Mt Tamalpais State Park. I attempted to reduce the effects of the wind by using portrait reflector as a wind block and using a higher shutter speed. The reflector mostly works for wind that originates from one direction or a small range of angles. If there is a wind gust from the other direction, it will not protect the lens from the wind. There are stitching problems at the top of the bridge and with the guide wires. The stitcher probably used key points based on cloud features more than the bridge. If the exposure is increased it may help some because the features in the clouds would diminish and the features in the bridge may increase. It would be good to be able to edit keypoints, or to have different types of keypoints with the ability to delete keypoints on moving objects. |

Sunday afternoon scene of people ice skating. This temporary ice skating rink is set up at the Seaside Lagoon in the Redondo Beach, Marina during the winter months of December and January. Folks can ice skate in the warm sunny Southern California sun while the snow falls elsewhere! If they move, the GigaPan can leave a few folks needing body parts. Photo has 48 images, camera; Nikon coolpix P5100. John Post |
