spacer Hawaii Pacific University Modern Media Systems class on the Fort Street Mall in Downtown Honolulu. Question of the day: how can a collaboration that includes Carnegie Mellon University, NASA, GOOGLE, National Geographic, and faculty and students at Hawaii Pacific University expand our understanding of modern media systems? In other words, what emerging, unique potentials are being leveraged by these institutions and their communities in our network of networks project? In part this image constitutes an exploration and manifestation of image-making technologies that provide opportunities for meta-connectivity and global community building. A compelling aspect of the global connection project is its attention to transparency. Transparency of technology, transparency of process, and drill down ability in the composite image itself..

spacer Taken while on an overnight film shoot in this beautiful cathedral. I must admit, I'm quite perturbed / disappointed that the damn beta imager appears to have screwed this picture up. I triple checked my camera and imager settings, batteries were fresh, and yet, it appears the imager couldn't stay still. Instead it looks like it continued to move in a downward motion during the images. Not cool

spacer Knowlton Church and rings is an intriguing site full of interest and atmosphere. A ruined Norman Church stand proud in the centre of Neolithic henge earthworks.

The Neolithic rings were probably constructed as a religious site, and the circular bank and ditches have been well preserved today. There is in fact evidence through crop markings of a further five circles and a number of barrows in the fields around the area.

The Church was built to destroy the religious power of the rings in times when Christianity was surging over Paganism. Its parishioners of the near by village were unfortunately killed by the plague of 1348 and the church fell in to disuse and then ruin in the 18th century.

spacer Staphansdom from the inside. A tad dark, but captures the cathedral feeling nicely. Had to cut off fairly high because of the tourists.

Normally you need a permit to use a tripod in Stephansdom, which I didn't have time to acquire, so the gigapan unit was placed on a prayer bench and ran from there. Not a few folks were interested... :-)

Rendered perfectly. :-)

As always, date is one month off from indicated camera time.

spacer My second take with the new Gigapan Epic 100 toy. Turned out quite nice if I do say so.
I do go into the deep end of the pool. 437 images and 2Gigapixel. Not what a beginner usually gets away with.
Also the unit held on pretty well. Even when I fitted the camera with it's 70-300 lens. It did not really like it, but it did it's duty very well.

This time I got lucky with the weather. A rainy day that changed into a sunny and clear afternoon. Only by the end of this shoot conditions changed and the occasional clouds made me wait a few extra minutes.

Two extra learning points for me.
Close the aperture even further. The bright light allows for that. And it would havegiven a better depth of field.
f10 was enough to get vignetting (fall off)away.
Don't try to get wife and daughter into the picture. In one place blending chopped of a leg. In the other it made may daughter completely disappear.

Anyway, it was great fun. Looking forward to the next project.

spacer My biggest Gigapan so far.
It took 70 minutes to take those 546 pics, and it was to cold ( ~-7°). The only thing i could do, to get me warm, is telling the tourists not to use their flashs till im done...
