Another view can be seen at: http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=29794

Since this church is across the stree from Rice University, I have added it to the collection of Rice GigaPan, which can be accessed via this link: http://tinyurl.com/RiceUniversity

For this hand-held panorama, I used a Nikon D70 with a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 lens and was stitched with the GigaPan Stitcher.

spacer Adjusted to bring out the details in the darker areas of http://gigapan.org/gigapans/33950/.

Completed in 1927, this Roman Catholic church has been recently restored for the 150th anniversary of its founding. I grew up in this town and this beautiful church is where I was baptized, confirmed and married. The stained glass windows, over 50 of them, portray scenes from the Old and New Testament of the Bible and are often used to illustrate the subjects of the sermons during Mass. The only lighting in this photo is from the sunlight coming through the windows. The German company, Franz Mayer of Munich was the designer and builder of the windows.

spacer The West facade of the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, France. Shot August 15, 2007 with a Canon 20D at 85mm F5.6.

From wikipedia:
Notre Dame de Paris ('Our Lady of Paris' in French), also known as the Notre Dame Cathedral, is a Gothic, Roman Catholic Cathedral on the eastern half of the Île de la Cité in the fourth arrondissement of Paris, France. It is the cathedral of the Catholic archdiocese of Paris: that is, it is the church that contains the "cathedra", or official chair, of the Archbishop of Paris, André Cardinal Vingt-Trois. Notre Dame de Paris is widely considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture in the world. It was restored and saved from destruction by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, one of France's most famous architects. The name Notre Dame means "Our Lady" in French, and is frequently used in the names of Catholic church buildings in Francophone countries. Notre Dame de Paris was one of the first Gothic cathedrals, and its construction spanned the Gothic period. Its sculptures and stained glass show the heavy influence of naturalism, unlike that of earlier Romanesque architecture.
