This is my first attempt at taking a macropanorama with multiple focal planes. I used the "Last Panorama" function on the GigaPan unit to retake the same field, but only after selecting another focal plane. I then used Helicon Focus software to render each frame, then stitched the panorama from the rendered frames with increased depth of field. This technique needs some work - I didn't get enough overlap between focal planes, so that's one area for improvement. I'll publish a detailed description of my technique on the GigaPan Forum once I work out the fine details. |

Taken with a 500mm mirror lens, which has excessive vignetting unfortunately. But the details is really good! |

This is the view from the Getty Museum in the Santa Monica Mountains, overlooking the west side of Los Angeles. It was a mostly clear, windy day, but the clouds to the east (rain?) limited visibility a bit. The furthest point along the coastline is Redondo Beach, Rancho Palos Verdes -- almost to Long Beach. |

This amazing tree is located in Santa Monica, on a property overlooking Pacific Palisades and the ocean. To get an idea of the size, compare it to the ful size RV in the lower right of the panorama.
It is on private property, so if you go looking for it, please be respectful. |

This is a "time lapse snapshot" of a disc golf tournament in Huntington Beach, California. Disc golf is like regular golf, but uses frisbees instead of balls and clubs. The holes are metal baskets with chains designed to catch the discs. For more info, check out www.pdga.com.
For this panorama, I took shots of many different players driving, putting, and walking the course over a 2 hour period. Then I overlayed the action shots on the gigapan image, creating what I'm calling a "time lapse snapshot" of the final round (18 holes) of the open division at the tournament. |

Maidstone River England...This image was shot on a Canon 400d DSLR and was the first Gigapan with the new DSLR Mount that I had made. The lens was the standard kit lens 18-55mm. the camera lens was set to 55mm, the rest of the setup was standard stuff. The gigapan worked very well with the extra load with no problems of any kind, I will try it again with a Longer focal lens but i dont think I will go above 105mm. the camaera I used before the 400d was a Canon G9, but was to total happy with the Image that i got and the extra hassle setting up the camera Focus etc... |

Taken from top of Burnt Mountain in Snowmass, Colorado, looking at West Willow and East WIllow Valleys with prominent Pyramid Peak in the background. Technical Note, taken with D200 on Gigapan Mount with electronic shutter release and 105mm macro lens. Focus and exposure constant for all 270 frames. |

There are paths all throughout Griffith Park, where the observatory is perched. I walked down the hill a couple hundred yards to get this profile of the building against the dusk sky. |

This is the view from Mount Jan Jacinto after riding the Palm Springs Aerial Tram up the mountain. The tram is a rotating gondola which takes you 2.5 miles up the face of the mountain. http://www.pstramway.com/ (Key Grip: Ben Wills) BTW, there is a Peregine Falcon perched in one of the trees... can you find it? |
