Just playing around with the gigapan unit: a view from the roof of my garden shed. It's a beautiful day and the kids have been playing after school with their aquaplay set and the bag of 'losse troep': toys they have collected over the years from happy meals and flea markets. There are sesame street figures all around. |

September 2008, Italy, Campania, Costiera Amalfitana, tremendous Villa Cimbrone, central garden Rose Terrace, 360 panorama.
"A covered stairway with blue wisteria growing on pergolas leads us onto the Rose Terrace. Here, within an arabesque balustrade, mindful of an old and absolutely English badminton court, in geometric flowerbeds, from May to October, ancient varieties of beautiful, scented French and English roses flower. In the middle stands a light stone meridian, on the outer edges, four ornamental statues: Flora, goddess of Flowers and Spring, Leda with Swan, and two wrestlers, Damosseno and Greucante." |

I ran into my Dad and Step Mom. They were on a tear to go check out the Marriot. They were told it was beautiful. And of course it was. But I don't know how 'beautiful' it really strikes me, as compared with some of the places I photographed. It is a manicured beauty, a tended beauty. Somehow artificial. The beauty of an over decorated haute cuisine meal when compared with fresh fish speared in the afternoon and thrown on the campfire in the evening. There are no bloody scales in the beauty of the marriot.

This vegetable garden is in the well-drained sandy loam of a 13,000 year old ice-contact alluvial fan. Soil fertility is enhanced by tilling under 30 cm of tree leaves each autumn, and several cm of composted cow manure each spring. During the growing season, beds are mulched with compost and old hay. Most of the produce is eaten fresh, but potatoes, onions, and garlic are stored, and 2 dozen quarts of tomatoes are preserved.
Notes: This panorama required variable focus, but some areas confounded the autofocus, so the imager was monitored and paused if the camera failed to take a shot in time. The shot was then completed manually before the imager was resumed. |

Inspired by the White Garden at Sissinghurst Gardens in Kent, England, the Klein-Pringle White Garden showcases white-flowered plants and plants with gray, white, or silver foliage set against a dark background of hollies and conifers. A charming white Victorian gazebo stands across a stretch of lawn, forming the focal point of this lovely garden. Low stone walls frame this formal outdoor garden room.
