I reshot the Emmons Glacier at a slightly different exposure in hopes of bringing out some of the glacial features that might have been overexposed in the larger Rainier Sunrise GigaPan: http://www.gigapan.org/gigapans/31687/ |

The largest King Penguin rookery in the world is in St. Andrews Bay on South Georgia. The penguins have a complicated reproductive cycle, and this rookery is occupied by penguins year-round. They are a noisy group, but they are not as smelly as the Adelie, Gentoo or Chinsatrap Penguins that we met on this voyage. The King Penguins eat mostly fish, not krill. The difference in diet accounts for the gentler aroma of the colony. There are probably a few hundred thousand King Penguins in the panorama. Count them if you wish, but do look for other things that are going on amid this multitude of birds. |

I have been to Yosemite a few times, but oddly had not been to Glacier Point. From this location you can see all of the valley floor and have a fantastic view of Half Dome. You can see from here that it was a fantastic day. We were lucky to be there in the fall and see all of the colors changing. If you havent been, put it on your list, if you have been, it's about time to go back! |

From close below the Tetons, this panorama offers a detailed look at the geology of the range front. The Teton Glacier is best seen from this angle and there are a couple of mafic dikes that cut the Archean igneous and metamorphic rocks that make up the bulk of the Teton Range. Oh yeah, a few tourists and cyclists in there, too. |
