Zoltan and I set up our robots and cameras and while taking our second set of panoramas this day at Rice at Jamail Plaza, discovered Heather, a philosophy student, who was very happy to be included in this Gigapan, which has to be seen in Google Earth via the link.
Behind Heather is: James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy Rice University To see Zoltan's version of this panorama, click on: http://gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=13647 In my collection of Rice panoramas, there is another GigaPan, taken last August before Hurricane Ike: http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=7767 NOTE: On the home page, a link can be found, "Browse Gigapans in Google Earth..." Clicking on that will d/l a file called gigapan.kml and then clicking on that file will then open GE and load all geocoded GigaPans, which allows you to see all the GigaPans from all over the world including all the ones that have been taken on the campus of Rice University. Once the loading process is completed, "fly to" Rice University. |

Taken on the south side of McNair Hall from Jamail Plaza where we see Saskia holding back the bear market and Cristina catching a ride on the bull market.
My Goal for this panorama was to have it as a continuation of the Faces I panorama: (http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=15137) and we see two Rice people, Saskia and Cristina, in this panorama. Each of the two Faces panoramas contain four snapshots identifying faces on either side of the entry way. This view in Google Earth is worth an effort :) An earlier GigaPan from this exact location is available here: http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?auth=45d74723c42a181ec9ba03576d65a0af |

Since this pano is so wide-angle, it has to be seen in Google Earth. |

This is the south side of McNair Hall as seen from Jamail Plaza. In this panorama, we see the four famous faces on the left side and in the GigaPan, Saskia & Cristina Tackle the Economy, we see the other four famous faces. |

My Goal for this panorama was to have it as a continuation of the Faces I panorama and we have Cristina, a business grad student, who took a few moments between classes to be in this panorama.
However, after Cristina left, Saskia showed up and I took the same collection of Saskia as I had Cristina and for the final version, I took half of Saskia and combined it with half of this GigaPan with the result being: http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=15381 |

This weekend is homecoming weekend at Rice and regardless of all the scheduled events taking place on campus, a number of us were drawn to the Jamail Plaza to see its dramatic fountain on this beautiful November morning.
Jamail Plaza and its fountain is located to the north of James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy or simply, Baker Institute. Last year, in this plaza, we found Heather finding peace and serenity in the Jamail Courtyard in front of Baker Institute: http://gigapan.org/gigapans/13445/ as well as Saskia and Cristina as they attempted to tackle the economy: http://gigapan.org/gigapans/15381/ This hand-held panorama was taken with a Canon SX110 camera and was stitched using the GigaPan Stitcher software. Additional details can be found on Stitcher Notes with information there concerning the GigaPan Stitcher run. Note: This gorgeous panorama can be seen in Google Earth as a curved panorama on a curved surface by clicking the link, View in Google Earth (assuming that you have Google Earth installed on your computer). |

A simply beautiful late-afternoon view looking north-east from Alice Pratt Brown Hall. To the left is Janice and Robert McNair Hall and to the right is James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy Rice University and between the two is Jamail Plaza with its eye-catching fountain.
This hand-held panorama was taken using a Canon SX 110 and was stitched using the GigaPan Stitcher software and additional details can be found on Stitcher Notes with information there concerning the GigaPan Stitcher run. The fall semester is now going into its third week of the school year and on this Labor Day morning, 2009, the fountain in Jamail Plaza is glowing with sunlight. We have taken GigaPans in this area before, but the fountain view screamed for yet another panorama of this beautiful plaza. Baker Hall is the home of James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy Rice University , and who can forget the GigaPan of Heather taken last December: http://gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=13445 The panorama was taken hand-held using a Canon SX110 camera. |

Taken with a Leica D-Lux 3 on a tripod and on a rainy day.
Jones Business School Shepherd School of Music Shepherd is a pretty spectacular place for extraordinary music students: Examples: http://www.pbase.com/texas_photo/image/82278252 http://www.pbase.com/texas_photo/image/82278476 http://www.pbase.com/texas_photo/image/82278692 http://www.pbase.com/texas_photo/image/82278328 |

Jamail Plaza, with Baker Institute to the South and McNair Hall. Taken with a Leica D-Lux 3 on a tripod. Camera aspect ratio is 16:9 and landscape mode.
. Behind the one snapshot showing where a previous pano was taken from is Autrey Basketball Court and from this place, Bill Clinton said in a speech last year to the students that he was not charging his regular speaking fee since James Baker assured him that he would not get involved in ballot counting in 2008 :) And behind Alice Pratt Brown is Rice Stadium where JFK gave his Moon Speech in 1962: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTyYM-dUgCI |
