A first time visitor to Yosemite Valley may well be overwhelmed. So many things to see, so many places to go, what to see, how to get there!
May I make a suggestion? Take the Bus! http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/bus.htm While you sit, you are driven around the valley past spectacular views of the icons of Yosemite. Get off at stop #11 ( Sentinel Bridge ) and walk towards Yosemite Falls along the river. You'll have this amazing view of Yosemite Falls and the cliffs along the north side of the valley. To the extreme lower left, crossing the river, is Superintendent's Bridge. In the middle of the view is upper and lower Yosemite Falls with the gully that the trail goes up to the left and Lost Arrow and Yosemite Point to the right. Farther to the right is Indian Canyon with Arrowhead Spire to the left and Lehamite Falls to the right. On the extreme lower right is the parking lot with the shuttle bus stop #11. |

Some of the best light a photographer could ask for... well worth delaying breakfast a little while. |

This Gigapan image was taken by Mike Andree in the Shenandoah River Valley, Virginia. My hopes were to capture images of bees foraging on clover and wildflowers in this meadow located along the river bank just outside Shenandoah National Park. This was one of my first Gigapan images taken and unfortunately I only took one row of pictures. Each time I use the Gigapan I learn something new and hope that because of this my Gigapan’s will improve over time. Take a look, enjoy, and see how many bees you can find. I can’t say exactly how many bees I captured on these images but I can tell you that while I was taking the images I was overwhelmed by the diversity of insects I saw in and amongst this meadow. It’s a shame that we in this country (and in others I’m sure) feel the need to constantly groom our landscape by mowing down beautiful meadows such as this. Grass, what a waste of time and habitat! |

Foothills Park is a 1,400-acre preserve with rugged chaparral, woodland, fields, streams, a lake, and spectacular views of the bay. Wildlife abounds, and it is common to see deer and coyotes; if you are lucky you might catch a glimpse of a bobcat |

Lotic riparian area in Northern.Arizona. The gray banding is caused by clouds. Overall, the image appears overexposed, this was intentional as the camera settings were chosen to match the channel corridor.

Mule deer fawn. The fawn was quite well hidden in the grass and I couldn't see it from much further away, so I took this photo from about 15 feet from where it slept.

The Sentinel Bridge shuttle bus stop ( stop #11 ) is near several spectacular vistas. This is the view after a short walk from the parking lot to the north towards the Falls. In view is both the upper and lower Yosemite Falls. To the far right before the trees you can see part way up Indian Canyon. The path to the right is towards the Sentinel parking lot and Bridge. The path to the left continues on towards the river and Yosemite Lodge. Yes, there are some blury spots. Manually shot using a monopod at 1/30sec. |
