Hawaii Pacific University Modern Media Systems class on the Fort Street Mall in Downtown Honolulu. Question of the day: how can a collaboration that includes Carnegie Mellon University, NASA, GOOGLE, National Geographic, and faculty and students at Hawaii Pacific University expand our understanding of modern media systems? In other words, what emerging, unique potentials are being leveraged by these institutions and their communities in our network of networks project? In part this image constitutes an exploration and manifestation of image-making technologies that provide opportunities for meta-connectivity and global community building. A compelling aspect of the global connection project is its attention to transparency. Transparency of technology, transparency of process, and drill down ability in the composite image itself.. |

There is a parable in Matthew 25 that speaks of feeding the poor. I believe that these words from 2000 years ago, as well as words from other religions of the world, create a foundation of the rich giving food to the poor and of wealthy nations providing sustenance to the poor nations that are in need. I am impressed by what Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church is doing and have created this panorama to show others what some people in Houston are doing on the local level to give nourishment to those who are in need. Since this church is across the stree from Rice University, I have added it to the collection of Rice GigaPans, which can be accessed via this link: http://tinyurl.com/RiceUniversity For this hand-held panorama, I used a Nikon D70 with a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 lens and was stitched with the GigaPan Stitcher. The photos were taken over a period of two days. |

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which is sited near the Lincoln Memorial, presents a memorial to all those US troops killed in Vietnam in a moving and honorable way. |
|
This small interior panorama of the Lincoln Memorial is taken by hand (no tripod) inside the space. Most indoor and many outdoor spaces in Washington DC forbid tripods, as the police and secret service kept telling me! |

The St. Louis, MO skyline taken on the grounds of the Gateway Arch, or, the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. In the center is the Old Courthouse, site of the 1856 Dred Scott case. The stitcher had a hard time making a coherent Arch, sadly. |
|
The hillside opposite the Lafayette, CA Bart Station has become a moving memorial to the U. S. troops killed in Iraq. One cross is added for each American death.
The missing frames are due to backing up the GigaPan unit to retake frames to remove cars. I may have removed too many frames when loading to the stitcher. |

This is a "time lapse snapshot" of a disc golf tournament in Huntington Beach, California. Disc golf is like regular golf, but uses frisbees instead of balls and clubs. The holes are metal baskets with chains designed to catch the discs. For more info, check out www.pdga.com.
For this panorama, I took shots of many different players driving, putting, and walking the course over a 2 hour period. Then I overlayed the action shots on the gigapan image, creating what I'm calling a "time lapse snapshot" of the final round (18 holes) of the open division at the tournament. |
