This is a test of a technique to capture action in low light. I used the Canon G10 to capture the scene at .25-.60 second, ISO 80, accepting the fact that I could not capture peak action. I then shot action with the Nikon D3 at ISO 1000 and patched those parts into the scene in Photoshop. The Canon fits the GigaPan but has poor high-ISO performance; the Nikon works superbly at high ISOs but won't fit even the Epic 100. Let me know if you think the result is realistic. This GigaPan has been sized down to fit the 3K-per-side limit for JPG files-- the larger TIFF and RAW files would not upload.
Gibbons are apes, not monkeys. These gibbons come from Southeast Asia. There are seven gibbons, eleven ducks and an English sparrow in this image -- can you find them all? If this pano looks a little low, it's because the GigaPan blurred all the top-row images despite the use of the 2-sec self-timer. Let me know if anyone has a fix for this.

I'm working on strategies to capture action in a GigaPan. I took a grid of photos with a tripod-mounted Nikon D3, then went back and shot action at various points along the track. Then I patched these action shots into the scene. I couldn't resist putting several rides together -- in real life there'd only be one car on the track at a time. There are two rides in this image: the Spongebob Squarepants Rock Bottom Plunge in the foreground and the Pepsi Orange Streak in the background.

Panorama taken from the observation deck of the Foshay Tower. I had to clamp the GigaPan to a railing above my head, forcing me to level the panorama by eye. I didn't do too badly, considering. At the same spot in every column, the GigaPan would snap and give a lurch, causing me to flinch. I had visions of the whole thing tumbling 30 stories and killing someone. Canon G10 with Raynox DCR-1540 tele adapter, giving an effective 35mm focal length of 219mm. |

Shot from 8:27P to 8:32P we were lucky to get it completed before Dave Matthews came on stage. If he would have come on stage 3 minutes earlier we would have been cut off half way thru and missed half this panorama.

The view from the roof terrace of Megan's condo. It's missing quite a bit on the right side. I paused the GigaPan while a cloud cleared out and it shut itself off. Even though it allowed me to resume the pano when I started it again, the new photos did not align with the rest of the pano. I'll try again another time. Canon G10 with Raynox tele accessory lens, giving an effective 35mm focal length of 219mm. 1 second GigaPan delay between pictures. |

Special State Fair foods are a big part of the experience for most Minnesotans. Roast corn on a stick is very popular, as you'll see here, but there is a huge variety of foods. How many kinds can you find? This pano was taken from the grandstand with Canon G10 and Raynox tele auxiliary lens. Its 35mm equivalent is 219mm. |

When the weather gets warm, the art students like to work outside. Now that school is out, you see the things they left behind. Canon G10 on auto focus and with the Raynox DCR-1540 tele-converter, giving an effective 35mm focal length of 219mm. Auto focus worked well but one image is completely out of focus. Oh yeah, 2.5 second delay between photos. |
