Mt Hood from Sandy, Oregon on a very windy day. I took this photo using a Canon G9 with a 2x teleconverter for a 35 mm equivalent focal length of 400 mm. I used a very fast shutter speed above 1/1200 s, F4.8, ISO 80. I used a Gigapan robot and I stitched it using Autopano pro v1.4.2. It was a very windy day and I was not able to find a sheltered spot. I was hoping to get a DSLR panoramic as well to compare, but the conditions were not good.
This location is about 25 miles / 70 kilometers away from the peak of Mt Hood. A better Gigapan that is taken from about 43 miles / 70 kilometers with a Canon 300 mm f4 L series lens is here http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=13977 |

Rising approximately 500 feet (152 meters) above the surrounding terrain, Sheep Mountain Table, topped with prairie grass, yucca and juniper trees, is a significant landmark in the Stronghold Unit (section) of the Badlands National Park. It’s reached in a 30-minute drive from the Ben Reifel Visitor Center in a section of the park contained within the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Sheep Mountain Table is also unique because it’s the only "table"(flat topped mesa) in which it's possible to drive on to its summit using a narrow, steep single lane dirt road (NOTE: normally only accessible with a high clearance, 4- or all-wheel drive vehicle). The road terminates on the summit of a prairie-grass and yucca topped summit ends at a pull-out that reveals a breathtaking 360-degree vista of the park, nearby farms and communities, and distant mountains.
