The San Francisco – Oakland Bay Bridge is unique by the fact the bridge goes into and through an island. The Yerba Buena tunnel disects through Treasure Island and is the midpoint of the bridge. Forming part of Interstate 80 and of the direct road route between San Francisco and Oakland, it carries approximately 270,000 vehicles per day on its two decks. It has one of the longest spans in the world. Shown in this panorama is the portion of the bridge from San Francisco into Treasure Island. Not seen in this panorama is the 2nd portion of the bridge which spans from Treasure Island to Oakland. The Bay Bridge opened for traffic on November 12, 1936, six months before the Golden Gate Bridge. |

This is a 180 degree panorama of the University of Pittsburgh Commons, taken from the first floor on June 24, 2009. "The Cathedral of Learning, a historic landmark, is the second-tallest education building in the world—42 stories and 535 feet tall. It is also the geographic and traditional heart of the campus. Begun by Chancellor John Bowman in 1926 and dedicated in 1937, the building was realized with the help of contributions from men, women, and children throughout the region and the world. During the peak of the Depression, when funding for the project became especially challenging, school children were encouraged to contribute a dime to "buy a brick." In addition to the magnificent three-story "Commons Room" at ground level, the Cathedral of Learning also contains classrooms (including the internationally renowned Nationality Classrooms), the University's administrative offices, libraries, a computer center, a restaurant, and offices and classrooms for many liberal arts departments. Trivia tidbit: The Cathedral of Learning has 2,529 windows." *The cited information about the Cathedral of Learning was found here: http://www.tour.pitt.edu/tour-080.html |

This is the first 360 degree GigaPan I made during the May fofs Workshop. It is on a steep forested eastern slope of Flagstaff Hill. The goal was to experiment with the focus and exposure challenges in forests, and to explore the potential for capturing vegetation community information from GigaPans. Ignoring the standard GigaPan protocols, the camera was set for automatic exposure (program mode), automatic focus, ISO 200, and the lens was not zoomed in all the way. The panoramic coverage exceeds 360 degrees, despite the fact that this Web site reports a field of view of 306 degrees. Making this test on a steep slope allowed me to capture the lower forest canopy as well as the forest floor with only two rows of photos. |
