This is a limestone quarry, currently run by the Highway Materials, Inc. Formerly known as Corson's quarry, it is claimed to the oldest continuously run quarry in the USA, and perhaps the oldest continuosly run indistrial operation in the USA. Nearby quarries existed from William Penn times. Correspondence exist between W. Penn and Mr. Fritzwater, which resulted in commission of a road from Philadelphia port to the lime kilns of the area. The road still exist now, yes, the Limekiln road. These are the main falls in Ohiopyle State Park, PA, USA. The day was cloudy and the setting very contrasty during my visit. I'll have to return on a better day for another shot, maybe from the Ferncliff Peninsula on other side of the shot. |

View over the Kinzua resevoir. The camera was set on all manual, but the passing clouds changed my lighting...
There is a fox out there, and a man pulling a sled. |

Henry Chapman Mercer, an archaeologist, collector, and tile-maker, designed and built this six-story reinforced concrete structure to house his collection of tools and other everyday artifacts from pre-industrial America. Mercer chose concrete to protect his collection from fire; it is used in every aspect of the building's construction, right down to the window muntins. Completed in 1916, the museum today contains over 50,000 items and is open to the public.
This interior view portrays the grand scale of his unique building and collection: even the roof of this central chamber is used to store artifacts. http://www.mercermuseum.org/ NOTE: For optimal viewing, see this panorama in Google Earth, which minimizes the geometric distortion in the panoramic image. |

I forgot to lower the ISO on the camera, so the image quality isn't so hot. Passing trucks were an issue, so I had to clip the edges a bit to edit them out. Snow was falling during this image, and it was *really* cold and windy, so I didn't stick around to try again. |

This chamber in the Mercer Museum of Doylestown, PA contains a wide assortment of cast-iron stove plates. These plates were used by the Pennsylvania Dutch in the construction of "five-plate stoves": five plates were arranged into a cube, with the open side flush against an opening in the kitchen fireplace. These stove plates often featured intricate cast reliefs, which helped inspire some of the designs in Henry Chapman Mercer's decorative tiles.

One of my independent project groups learning how to use the GigaPan in the Munhall park. These students were trying to figure out how to be at one place in the photo and then be in another place. The students in this photo are all 9th and 10th graders at Propel Andrew Street High School, a project-based charter school in the Pittsburgh area. |
