. This panorama of the Erie Canal was taken in Pittsford, New York on the afternoon of October 6, 2009. Nine portrait-mode images have been stitched together. The historic Erie Canal runs from the Hudson River in Albany to Lake Erie near Buffalo, New York. The canal was begun in 1817, completed in 1825, and enlarged in the 1850's and early 1900's. The section through Pittsford, New York was opened in 1822, making Pittsford an active commericial port along the path to the mid-western United States. Today all canal traffic is recreational. An excellent history of the Erie Canal can be found on Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erie_Canal My Flickr photograph of a sailboat passing through nearby Erie Canal Lock 33 can be seen at - http://www.flickr.com/photos/24239301@N03/4019695853/in/set-72157604028055805/ Pittsford was incorporated in 1827 and grew as a direct consequence of commerce on the Erie Canal. During the Civil War, Pittsford was a major stop on the "Underground Railroad", providing a refuge for runaway slaves. Today, Pittsford is well know for its golf courses, including Oak Hill Country Club, which has hosted 3 U.S. Opens, 2 PGA tournaments, and the Ryder Cup. The Locust Hill Country Club hosts an annual LPGA tournament. The NFL Buffalo Bills also hold their summer training camp in Pittsford, at St. John Fisher College. Chuck Mangione, the Grammy-winning jazz musician known for playing the flugelhorn and the song "Feels So Good", is a resident of Pittsford. This is the second of three GigaPans I took on the 21st of December 2008 of the Twelve Apostles. The first picture was taken just out of view in the right center of the picture where the elevated walkway goes out of sight.
Since I couldn't put it any more concisely, here is a description from www.visitvictoria.com The Twelve Apostles are giant rock stacks that rise majestically from the Southern Ocean and are the central feature of the rugged Port Campbell National Park. The Twelve Apostles are the remnants from constant erosion of the limestone cliffs of the mainland that began 10-20 million years ago. The stormy Southern Ocean and blasting winds gradually eroded the softer limestone, forming caves in the cliffs. The caves eventually became arches and when they collapsed rock stacks up to 45 metres high were left isolated from the shore. The Twelve Apostles are located just east of Port Campbell, along the Great Ocean Road. - visitvictoria.com |

The Main Media Centre (MMC) for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games is located within the Canada Place complex and the Vancouver Convention Centre on the city’s downtown waterfront. Canada Place houses the Main Press Centre, while the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) is located in the Vancouver Convention Centre (West Building). |

Pano taken after the earthquake overlooking the city on the highest point. I have it as a PSD that is much higher resolution, but I could not upload it. Converted to JPEG and uploaded. |

I have had the fortune to go to the Twelve Apostles twice now and both times it has been hazy. No big deal, just wish I could have taken a GigaPan on a nice clear day. In this GigaPan, the different colors of the cliff on the right are from where the sun did come out of the clouds for a while and then went back behind the clouds. The washed out area in the middle is where the sun came out, and the colorful areas are where the sun was behind the clouds. This is the first of three GigaPans I took here.

An approximately 270 degree panorama from High Point, New Jersey. The view is from approximately east-southeast (left) to north-northeast (right). Three states are visible in this view: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. Lake Marcia is near the center of the image and Port Jervis, NY is near the right side of the image. The panorama was shot from the southwest corner of the base of the High Point monument. At the time of uploading, this is my largest GigaPan yet, and first to exceed 5 gigapixels. (Someday they'll fix the 360 degree stitching bug and I may have others this size to upload.) |
