Three highways converge on Yosemite Valley. The northern most of these is highway 120. It goes through a long tunnel and as you exit the tunnel you pass a turnout with this view looking at the Merced River coming down the Canyon with Bridalvail Fall in the distance. |

Near boppard one can find the biggest sinuosity of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley (World Heritage). Here you are - the promised sunny picture. Besides sunny, there also was wind from north-east and active thermals, this means you can find paragliding pilots from the RML and DGC clubs around. :^) In december I shot a panorama here in the near dark: http://share.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=13656 |

An approximately 270 degree panorama from High Point, New Jersey. The view is from approximately east-southeast (left) to north-northeast (right). Three states are visible in this view: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. Lake Marcia is near the center of the image and Port Jervis, NY is near the right side of the image. The panorama was shot from the southwest corner of the base of the High Point monument. At the time of uploading, this is my largest GigaPan yet, and first to exceed 5 gigapixels. (Someday they'll fix the 360 degree stitching bug and I may have others this size to upload.) |

Ten years ago I took a panorama near this spot using film. I recently posted it, http://gigapan.org/gigapans/30346. Providence Place was still under construction and I was down on the bridge over the river, so I couldn't see the capitol building. This time, I am on higher ground overlooking the river, Providence Place is flourishing, several high-rises have sprouted and the beautiful marble capital building is in full view. |

In Trego County, Kansas, the Smoky Hill River has been dammed to form Cedar Bluff Reservior. This view shows the spillway and downstream areas along the Smoky Hill River. The day was a nice one, but spring has not quite sprung in this part of Kansas. In a few weeks things will green up a little and outdoor GigaPan photography will be much more enticing. Alas, Kansas will still be flatter than a pancake... |

This GigaPan was shot as the slices of bread surrounding the cold cuts in a "GigaPan sandwich". The day began sunny and I began to shoot a very large GigaPan from this lovely vantage point in downtown Keeseville, New York. About halfway through shooting this GigaPan sequence clouds rolled in. After about a half hour of shooting and another half hour spent waiting for the sun to return I finally got frustrated and gave up on the sunny image, aborting about midway through the originally planned shot.
Realizing that I had bitten off too much, I decreased the zoom and set up the same shot at lower resolution and optimized for cloudy conditions. This shot was completed (after a few pauses when the sun poked out again) and can be seen here: http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=27062 By the time I finished the cloudy GigaPan, I saw a stretch of sunny skies headed my way again. I scrambled to set up the shot parameters that I could recall from the original sequence and positioned the camera as close as I could to the place where I previously left off. Once the sun came back out I embarked on completing the second half of the sunny image. Clouds returned before I completed the last three rows of the originally planned image, but by then I had successfully captured most of the interesting detail of the scene. You can see where the GigaPan is offset horizontally by about a quarter of a frame. Nonetheless, I had enough overlap that the Stitcher was able to successfully and seamlessly put together the two halves of this sunny image and salvage a GigaPan that at least approximates what I was originally shooting for. The moral of this story: shooting GigaPans on a partly cloudy day may cause much consternation and gnashing of teeth, but if one is patient and observant of the weather conditions a decent GigaPan (or two) may still be salvaged. |

This GigaPan illustrates the Yellowstone River eroding down through a series of sediments and lava flows that have filled its valley in the last two million years. The prominent columnar jointed lava flows across the canyon are about 2 million years old and sandwich a layer of probable glacial till. The light was great when I started this GigaPan and lasted until about halfway through shooting it. At that point a cloud came in and blocked out the sunlight. After pausing the panorama for about a half an hour waiting for the return of the sun and a couple of brief but futile restarts I finally adjusted the camera settings to reflect the cloudy conditions and resumed. The results aren't as spectacular as if I'd had good sunlight throughout, but not as bad as they could've been. Someday I'll have to get back here on a nice sunny day and shoot a GigaPan that does the view justice. |

In this view from the West Van Buren Street draw bridge looking north, you can easily see the Jackson Boulivard draw bridge. The draw bridges are still operated and are raised for the tall masts of sailboats, but most of the traffic (barges and architectural boat tours) easily pass under the bridges. |

Full 360 degrees this time. Stitcher 0.4.4329 fixes my 360 issue. Yay GigaPan Team! The ridgeline at the center of South Mountain Park offers a full view of the Phoenix area. From snow capped peaks 50 miles to the east to the open desert of the west this 360 degree pano shows it all. It was not a perfectly clear day but you can still see the snow on Mount Lemmon, over 90 miles away to the south. In downtown, among the high rises you can see a gigantic portrait of Yao Ming, put on the side of the building across from the site of the NBA Allstar Game as part of an advertisement for T-Mobile. All four major sports venues are visible as well as ASU's Sun Devil Stadium. |
