This is a roadcut/drivewaycut along Shore Airport Road, just northeast of Ticonderoga, New York. My primary goal in shooting this macroGigaPan was to illustrate sedimentary structures including those spectacular weathered crossbeds near the bottom of this image. Can you make out any other interesting sedimentary structures? |

This reservoir stores water for hydro-electric power generation and supplies the town of Canmore with water. In late June-when this pano was made-the water level is low. It will be allowed to rise over the Summer to reach the vegetation that can be seen high up on the shores. Then it will be drawn down the following Fall, Winter, and Spring, and the cycle repeats. The result is a large rocky ring around the reservoir where very little grows. |

As a geologist sometimes you're just driving along when Wham! out of nowhere you spot something interesting in a roadcut. In the best of circumstances there's nobody tailgating you and there's a pullout where you can get off the road to photograph the roadcut. This was one of those good situations. I think this is also the only GigaPan I shot this summer that has Mount Jefferson in it. |

The marvelous glass work of Dale Chihuly has been on display at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix since last November. I have taken four GigaPans of some of the pieces before this temporary installation goes back on the road at the end of May. :-(

Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a rock structure in Red Rocks Park near Morrison, Colorado (west of Denver), where concerts are given in the open-air amphitheatre. There is a large, tilted, disc-shaped rock behind the stage, a huge vertical rock angled outwards from stage right, several large boulders angled outwards from stage left and a seating area for up to 9,450 people in between. The amphitheatre is owned and operated by the City and County of Denver, Colorado.
Locals use the theatre for a work out spot, exercising by running up and down the aisles, or running back and forth. |
