Here is an early Spring look at the Rose Garden in the Christchurch Botanical Gardens. We were standing on the balcony of the 2nd floor of the greenhouse, looking almost due South at the various shades of green and red foliage.
It was mid-October in Christchurch. For my friends in the Northern Hemisphere, that means that this photograph was taken in early Spring. Tulips and daffodils were blooming in other parts of the gardens. These rose bushes were green, but the rosebuds were tiny and they were also green. The rose garden will have a very different look in late November. The 24 images of this panorama were photographed with a Nikon D80 and stitched with Autopano Pro. |

From the website http://glenhoteltexas.com/history-glen-hotel.htm : "Originally known as Hotel Glen Rose or Glen Rose Hotel, the Glen Hotel began construction in the mid-1920's and opened its doors for business in 1928. At the time, Glen Rose was an attractive destination for tourists seeking the soothing and healing powers of the towns many mineral springs. After only one year in business, the hotel succumbed to harsh economic times of the depression and closed its doors for the next ten years. Upon reopening in 1939, the hotel offered comfortable accommodations, including home cooked meals in the back dining room. Diners would travel down from Dallas just to eat at the hotel dining room. In fact, we have had guests that can remember coming here to eat as children. From 1939 to the mid-1970's, the hotel was under the control of two different owner's. During this time the hotel had a reputation of an upscale place to stay and served as a quasi-boarding house for many women whose husbands were serving in war." |
