This is the third try at this gigapan. I like this scene. It is so typical of rural Pennsylvania. My problem is I only used six rows, 2 columns, and 12 pix. I moved closer to the farm house, losing some of the cows in a second gigapan, which uses 36 pix and 3 rows, but it too is under 40 images. What I discovered is the closer the gig the more images it takes. |

If it weren't for the John Deer tractor atop the small roof on the barn, this scene could be in any era. Look for the geese swimming in the water and basking in the sun. It is in the Laural Highlands along Route 130 in southwestern Pennsylvania. |

This is part 1, 120 degrees of a 360 degree panorama that was taken April 21 at sunset in a field in Sarver. It was made by Derek. |

Fort Riley was established in 1853 along the banks of the Kansas River and near the Oregon and Santa Fe Trails. It has been home to the famous 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments, the "Buffalo Soldiers" and is again home to The Big Red One. The post is also home to the First Capitol of the Kansas Territory (1855).
This image was taken later in the day the Konza Prairie image was taken. That location is only a few miles away. The skies have darkened due to the large number of prairie fires being burned in the flint hills. The Konza Prairie http://www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=20901 The Atomic Cannon This remnant of the cold war era is one of 20 produced of which 8 still exist. The M65 has a 42 foot barrel and fires an 11 inch projectile. This cannon is part of Freedom Park near Junction City, KS, sits atop the hills overlooking Fort Riley and can be seen from I-70 passing below. More information and a video of the test shot from an M65 can be seen at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upshot-Knothole_Grable |

This small town in central Kansas was built along the southbound railroad tracks which have since been abandoned and now removed. One of the images near the bottom right of the panorama was corrupted rendering the last two columns unusable. I went back out to the turnoff into town on the highway and captured an image of the sign then inserted it in place of the corrupted image to finish out this pan. The sign, even back a mile to the highway, is much a part of the town. And yes, if it is the 1st Saturday of the month breakfast is being served at the church along with homemade baked goods ~ a pretty darn good deal! |
