This is the Belle Island Pedestrian Bridge and part of the Richmond Virginia skyline.
The pedestrian bridge is tucked under the Robert E. Lee Bridge, which is the span of Route 1 over the James River. It is surrounded by interesting things to see, like trains, the piling of the old Robert E. Lee Bridge and river rocks and rapids. Belle Island is a great place to spend an afternoon. Although there are some steep trails for dirt bikes and more seasoned hikers, the footpath around the island is gentle enough for novice and less ambitious walkers. I was impressed with the country setting nestled among the buildings and highways of the State Capital. Matt, thank you for showing me this place and for helping me make this panorama of a view with two moons. |

Robert Point on Robert Island is in the South Shetland Islands, just a bit west of the Antarctic Peninsula. The point looks pretty rugged, and the rocks made walking a bit tricky. Lichens and grass add some color to the landscape. |

A dull winterday in Pretoria, 19 C temp: cold for us! Lots of smoke in the air, not a clear day. In the background the Union Buildings and one of the FIFA world Cup 2010 venues the Loftus Versfeld stadium.
"The Union Buildings form the official seat of the South African government and also house the offices of the President of South Africa. The imposing buildings sit on Meintjieskop, overlook Pretoria and is a South African National monument. These buildings, built from light sandstone, were designed by the architect Sir Herbert Baker in the English monumental style and are 285 m long. They have a semi-circular shape, with the two wings at the sides, this serve to represent the union of a formerly divided people. The east and west wings represent two languages, English and Afrikaans. These buildings are considered by many to be the architect's greatest achievement and a South African architectural masterpiece".--From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. --Will post again on a clear day. |

Most people and supplies arrive at the South Pole by airplane. Here we see two of the South Pole's most frequently used aircraft on the ground at the same time. The small red plane is a Twin Otter operated by Kenn Borek Air Ltd. a Canadian company whose small planes shuttle people and supplies between McMurdo Research Station and South Pole and between other Antarctic research stations and some non-government travel destinations. This particular plane is carrying 2 ski parties, one Finnish and 1 Norwegian, to Patriot Hills.
The larger gray plane is a LC-130 Hercules, fondly known as a Herc. These big gray planes carry large cargo loads around the continent. At -9 degrees F, it is a rather warm day at the bottom of the world. Have a look around the place and catch a glimpse of some people at work at the South Pole. The 45 images of this panorama were photographed with a Nikon D-80 and stitched with Autopano Pro. |
