Kalalau Valley Kauai #2

spacer Kalalau Valley is one of the most scenic and beautiful spots in the state of Hawaii if not the world.
I often ask my customer that I take on my tours what scenery they liked best out of all the places that I took them to,
and they often say this lookout. It is sometimes covered in clouds but some times in just a minute it totally clears up.
When I first got to the lookout today it was totally white. I waited about 30 minutes to get this view, and it got even better after that.
I suggest patience if this lookout is cloudy for it is very much worth your wait. Often on a clear day when people walk up to this look out, I hear them saying WHOOOOOW!!!!!!
I will upload photos of Kalalau with better lighting conditions in the future.
I think it looks nice w/ some clouds too.

Train departed... Brocken mountaintop Bahnhof (train station), Harz Mountains, Germany

spacer The silly train was only stopped for a short while, not long enough to catch the engine or wait for sunshine. The Brocken is the highest point in Central Germany at 1100+ Meters elevation. The steam powered tourist train starts in the villages in the valleys below and winds its way up to the top of the mountain. Wikipedia says that the Brocken was a former Soviet listening station and was walled off until the fall of the Berlin wall. Now it is an immensely popular tourist destination. One amazing thing about this gigapan is that I somehow happened to capture, in 1/800 of a second, the flash from the lady's camera on the terrace. Who woulda thought...

spacer A 360 degree view of Salt Lake City shot from the Meterolorgy department building on the campus of the University of Utah. To see a live timelapse from this location go to http://www.timecam.tv

The silver stripe is the pole that our timelapse camera sits on.

This image took 3.5 days for my computer to process and upload. I think missing images slow the gigapan stitcher down a lot.

spacer First gigapan I've ever shot! Had to photoshop out some stitching errors due to nodal point mistakes setting up the shot, but ultimately I think I'm pretty happy with it.

I also bracketed this +2/-2 in an HDR version I'll probably post soon, but i'm experimenting with some HDR methods first. In any case, more to come soon.

A second, more complete version of this view can also be found at http://share.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=24450.

Enjoy!

spacer Woo-La-Ra is the new name of a massive mound of waste that was created in 1997-1999 at the northern end of Sydney Olympic Park during the remediation for the 2000 Olympics. It contains about 1.5M tonnes of industrial waste including dioxin, gasworks tar, power station ash and putrecible waste. The waste is capped by a metre of clay and leachate is collected in a perimeter drain for offsite treatment.

It is a local high point and has been constructed with bike and pedestrian trails. It provides exellent views of the surrounding areas and is now teeming with bird and insect life.
