spacer A *fixed* edition of an image created for a research paper i'm completing on using mixed media in the form of massive-resolution digital images and poetry. The image was created using the Ascii Art Generator found here: http://www.glassgiant.com/ascii/ and consists of 400-letter long rows. The final text was loaded into a layer in photoshop where I added my own text and phrases over specific locations on the image.

The original version of the imagecan be viewed here: http://gigapan.org/gigapans/36935/

spacer The third piece I completed for my mixed media photography/poetry project, and the one most impromptu in terms of the poetry but because of the straight lines, planar perspective, and trick photography much more tedious to photograph and manipulate than anything I've done for this particular project. Very pleased with the results, but probably really have to print this one to exhibit it properly; I'd admittedly be pretty impressed if anyone actually took the time to read the whole piece on the gigapan site...enjoy!

spacer My second piece completed for my mixed media photography/poetry project. I was originally thinking of using portions of Google Maps and Streetview as media but decided that I liked this layout already and stuck with it. The poem is a standard, 14-line Elizabethan sonnet and is written in SMS. Surprisingly enough, I was preoccupied with finishing the piece and did not really have time to enjoy the bars themselves....

spacer My dia de los muertos box; my first attempt at something quasi-narrative with mixed media in a gigapan. Memorializing anything sentimental in my closet resulted in the overwhelming but neccesarry amount of narcissim that went into this.

Some notes: There are also a few links to my videos and music embedded in the snapshots i've taken which help explain all the items on the wall, if you really want to get a sense for how the items all relate to one another. There's a lot of time-related photography/virtual reality/time items that I like to think give the viewer a sense of evaporating memories and time. There's also two of the same watch that relate to the process and allude to the fact that the photograph is composited from 120 individual photographs taken at different moments, creating an illusion of a precise moment that never actually occurred at all. In the next piece I do like this, I'm going to attempt to elicit the same idea with a drop of water caught in mid-air or a falling glass.

spacer Believe with 24 appearances this image now holds the record for most number of appearances in a single Gigapan, and the first self-portrait i've ever done (with credit due to my friend Liv, who told me when it was safe for me to move from machine to machine). The first indoor Gigapan i've posted, stitched in AutoPano. Hr and half exposure, with surprisingly little retouching done in photoshop. Now off to go play games over and over and over...

spacer Taken from the side of the Adler Planetarium, August 11th, 2009-- desaturated one entirely and about 70% on another, printed both 44 x 90 in. This is the final, cropped version after a fair amount of manual retouching. Enjoy!

spacer First shot i've taken that I feel was worth the extra time to photoshop and make perfect, including everything from the Mercedes Benz shoot to the cars stopped in traffic on the West Side Highway. Also what I think is the first shot taken at this resolution of the new Highline Park that's just opened. Definitely the most time i've ever spent working on a single picture...pretty good view from here. Printing as big as I can as well. enjoy!

spacer Finally got a decent stitch out of this using stitcher and manually fixing the skyline. Good enough for the internet, not really good enough to print...missing the fisherman's hand and some of the palm tress, which I could manufacture but would take a lot of time. Again shot in HDR but stitched through one exposure. Only kind of happy with it-- wish i'd gotten the fisherman's hand, obviously. Next time.

spacer Taken on the same trip to the zoo as the Tiger Habitat panorama found here: http://gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=25389

Again, non-HDR, and I'm coming to the conclusion that these look as good as the HDRs if not better because of the meticulous retouching involved. It may also rely heavily on the content of the picture. In this case i'm really pleased with this one.
