I am an artist and researcher. Formally educated as an information technology professional in a liberal arts context, my work continues to exist in the arts, centered around technical and social systems. My tools and experience range from computer programming to spatial data analysis; photography to ethnography.
My art practice explores what I call supportive structures: the intersection of infrastructure and the ephemeral. I tell human stories, but see human activity aggregated through, and recorded in infrastructure. I am an explorer of the John Stilgoe type: I believe there is a hidden world outside and, through my work, I wish to give others the tools to see, understand and interpret the systems around them. In broad terms, my interests include: workplaces, rituals, standards, identity, language and history.
Im proud to say that I consider myself a candidate for what Susan Leigh Star calls The Society of People Interested In Boring Things.

Jonathan Minard and I went to Allegheny County Airport (AGC) in West Mifflin, PA to take a Gigapan of the building and runways. While we were there, we met this guy Mike from the Civil Air Patrol. He took us back onto the runway to see the airplanes and runway up close! Big thanks to him!!!

Jonathan Minard and I went to Allegheny County Airport (AGC) in West Mifflin, PA to take a Gigapan of the building and runways. The airport is totally art-deco, and really beautiful inside--it's like a time capsule.
I think one of us shook the camera accidentally on this one, so there may be "jiggles" in it, especially around the straight lines (runway lines, the light pole, etc.)

For comparison, I took two gigapans from this location: one with my A640, and one with the CREATE lab's SD800. This is the result of the latter. The exposure seems better on this one... :-(

This is a gigapan I took from the Rankin Bridge of Braddock, PA. It was taken right before the torrential downpour that flooded Millvalle and reportedly produced a tornado that touched down in downtown Pittsburgh. The before-the-rain-haze might not make such a good photo, huh?

I think this is similar to my face on graduation day: "Wait, I have to figure out what to do with my life now? Ahh!"
