There is an oral history project associated with this World War II Memorial: http://wwii.rice.edu/foreward.htm and http://wwii.rice.edu/
I am at a loss for words other than what I wrote concerning the snapshot, other than it is a beautiful place to stop and meditate and consider freedom and the commitment to preserve it for future generations.
This Memorial is located at the intersection of Heights Boulevard and 11th Street in the Heights.
The panorama consists of 24 hand-held photos taken with a Canon SX110 camera and was stitched using the GigaPan Stitcher software. Additional details can be seen when clicking Stitcher Notes.
View in Google Earth is a true visualization of the scene and is most worthwhile to appreciate.

Last year after I had received my GigaPan robot, I was fortunate to come upon the Sally Ride Science Festival and had taken a GigaPan (http://gigapan.org/gigapans/11021/). Today, I was again lucky and arrived to discover that this was the day for the 2009 Festival.
This panorama could easily become a big-time favorite of mine for it has lots to see... a good size moon rock, two solar telescopes and one of Rice's finest, a RPD officer, who I have had the pleasure of knowing for several years, who you can see in one of the snapshots.
This panorama is comprised of 26 photographs, which were taken with a Nikon D-70 using a Nikkor 28-80 f/3.3-5.6G lens and was stitched using the GigaPan Stitcher software.
Note: This panorama can be seen in Google Earth as a curved panorama on a curved surface by clicking the link, View in Google Earth (assuming that you have Google Earth installed on your computer).
Additional information can be found when clicking Stitcher Notes ... this panorama was taken in 40 seconds.

Kilgore661 has always been an inspiration for me and one of his most incredible GigaPans, View From Above (http://www.gigapan.org/gigapans/7536/), has always been at the top of my list for exceptional panoramas. I have been to Bath Abbey *numerous* times, but never got to the top as he was able to accomplish. However, I have been to the Top of Texas (http://www.gigapan.org/gigapans/34909/). Based on Kilgore661's panorama and my panorama, I am sure that there are many others from all over the world, that can be sub-titled, View From Above; however, I feel that Kilgore661 has nailed the title of View From Above already, and although my selection is a View From above, it is not *THE* View From Above.
It is my request that those that want to participate submit their unique view from above (as an example(s), a panorama from the highest place in your City or State or Country).
The primary snapshot is the view from the edge of the roof of JPMorgan Chase Tower looking down at the Hilton Hotrel from where I took this panorama: http://www.gigapan.org/gigapans/30986/
As can readily be seen, this is a small GigaPan... it would have been larger had it not been for electronic interference or user error. It was taken with the Canon SX110 attached to a beta robot and stitched using the GigaPan Stitcher. Additional details can be seen when clicking Stitcher Notes. Viewing in Google Earth is a true visualization of the scene.

Another street view of the tallest tower in Texas: http://www.gigapan.org/gigapans/9837/snapshots/104508/
This panorama was taken a few minutes before I made the ascent to the roof via a high-speed elevator to take this GigaPan: http://www.gigapan.org/gigapans/34909/. Needless to say, it would have been most *difficut* to have climbed to the top via the stairwell.
The panorama consists of a 3x4 matrix of hand-held photos taken with a Canon SX110 camera and was stitched using the GigaPan Stitcher software. Additional details can be seen when clicking Stitcher Notes.
View in Google Earth is a true visualization of the scene if you ignore a slight wave on the Chase Tower :)

This is the pinnacle of my 2009 GigaPan effort :) 1000 feet up looking out on all of Houston ... what an experience, and I may be going back again.
From Wikipedia: The 75-story, 1,002-foot (305.4 m) tall JPMorgan Chase Tower of Houston, Texas, formerly the Texas Commerce Tower, is the tallest building in Texas, the tallest five-sided building in the world, and is the 45th tallest in the world. http://tinyurl.com/5qkn68
This hand-held panorama has been stitched using the GigaPan Stitcher software and the 26 photos comprising the panorama were taken with a Nikon D70 using a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 lens and a Heliopan UV filter. Additional details can be found under Stitcher Notes.

This would be my second occasion to see a Moon Rock; the first being at an exhibit at the LBJ Library in Austin, Texas, which happened a few years ago. Today, I was not dissapointed in what I saw on this very cloudy October day.
This hand-held panorama was taken prior to entering Fondren Library, passing through security and then viewing the Lunar Sample, which was really a visual treat.
The 360-degree panorama is constructed from 23 photos (300dpi) taken with a Nikon D70 camera and a Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 lens and was stitched using the GigaPan Stitcher software.

I wanted to take a panorama of the new recreation building just completed within the past two weeks (We had seen this building nearing completion as we took an earlier GigaPan from the Rice Stadium: http://www.gigapan.org/gigapans/29860/snapshots/91283/) and as I prepared to start, Fernanda walks by and she and I both admire the beauty of this new structure.
Note: This panorama is comprised of 20 photos, and each is 300dpi and is not a 360-panorama. An earlier stitch using files that are 72 dpi and is a 360-panorama can be found via this link: http://gigapan.org/gigapans/c4ff0c34e265f28ae615f38153e8fba4/. Both files are viewable in Google Earth via the link, View in Google Earth.
The panorama was taken using a Nikon D70 with a Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 lens and was stitched using the GigaPan Stitcher. Additional details can be found under Stitcher Notes.

The entire series can be seen here: http://tinyurl.com/y9edrjt
What happens on this annual even is that you spend the school week trying to fix up your roommate with a blind date, and if successful, decide on a clothing theme. Then, come Friday evening, all meet in the Academic Quad to find their date based on the clothing theme.
Great fun occurs and this one panorama is only a small taste as to what is to follow. There will be several of these panoramas U/L over the next week.
All these photos are 300dpi, so zoom in and have a good time looking around to see what you can find.
This collection of *panoramas* are similiar to the Beer Bike Parade *panoramas*: To see *portraits* taken at the Beer Bike Parade, click on this link: http://tinyurl.com/RiceUniversity-BeerBikeParade .
These 300-dpi photographs were taken with a Nikon D-70 using a Nikkor 28-80 f/3.3-5.6 G lens and those in the second row were stitched using the GigaPan Stitcher software. As it was close to sunset, most, if not all of the photographs were flash photos (SB-800 flash unit).
The photos were assembled in PhotoShop on an old Mac G5, which was very time consuming, but well-worth the effort.
