From http://www.lorettochapel.com/history.html, "At the end of the Old Santa Fe Trail stands the Loretto Chapel. Inside the Gothic structure is the staircase referred to as miraculous, inexplicable, marvelous and is sometimes called St. Joseph’s Staircase. The stairway confounds architects, engineers and master craftsmen. It makes over two complete 360-degree turns, stands 20’ tall and has no center support. It rests solely on its base and against the choir loft. The risers of the 33 steps are all of the same height. Made of an apparently extinct wood species, it was constructed with only square wooden pegs without glue or nails."

Taken from the scenic overlook along New Mexico Highway 68. Just before taking the panorama two bald eagles flew down the river basin and while I was taking the shot I noticed 15-20 ducks just floating down the river. I guess it's easier than flying. ;-)

My wife has always called this complex God's Chair. I suppose it fits. Technically, it is Williams Square, but who am I to judge?

The website http://www.mustangsoflascolinas.com/ has all the backstory on this sculpture. I went to Williams Square, where they are located, on a Saturday afternoon It was cold, windy and somewhat cloudy. I tried manual and pano assist settings on my Nikon, but ended up using auto mode for the entire shoot. Because the sun was coming in and out of the clouds exposure lock was more harm than help. Even with auto mode, the tops of some of the horses were over exposed, but I think the overall result is fair. Williams Square has a prohibition against professional photography. I am a definitive amateur, but since tripod==professional for a lot of security, I got in and out as quickly as possible. Not that it is related, but minutes after I left for my next shoot, a private security patrol arrived and stayed around for a few minutes...

This is my first night shoot. It used an 8 second exposure and 15 seconds per pic on the gigapan imager. A total of 96 shots were taken. The fountain is the centerpiece of a pocket park the City of Irving, Texas built a near the intersection of Grauwyler and MacArthur.

In the spring, Hamilton Pool is sometimes closed to swimming, as the nesting swallows contaminate the water and cause high bacteria levels.

The other side of this sign warns visitors that stagnant pools of river water may host amoebas and to exercise caution to avoid infection.

Spillway & Dam

The entire region has been under serious drought conditions all summer. The City of Glen Rose took the opportunity to clean accumulated muck out the riverbed behind the dam. Historically, the riverbed was rock, but the dam caused a buildup of sediment. So, concealed behind this dam are huge piles of dirt, mud, and river trash.
The day after this panorama heavy rains filled the basin and topped the dam by 6-10 inches.
