Arched openings of Charminar
Created: April 8, 2009 Taken From: CHARMINAR AT DAWN Snapped By: aditya singaraju (adityasingaraju) Comments: none - add a comment Total Views: 330 Ornamentation of the arches done in a three-layered fashion, surmounted by crenellated parapets with small bulbous minarets, protruding at each corner. The domes are supported over tall drums, which are balustraded. Domes are slightly bulbous in contours rising from a base of petals or trefoil merlon motifs.Arched openings helped facilitate cross-ventilation for the people which kept the building pleasantly cool even in the hottest of summers. The Charminar was originally designed as a mosque. |
