Machu Picchu from lower terrace

Machu Picchu is an Inca site in the Andes Mountains of Peru. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has been called one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.

Hiram Bingham is credited with discovering Machu Picchu, but there were people living there at the time of his "discovery".

The better-known photos of Machu Picchu are taken from closer to the Intiwatana with Wayna Picchu in the background. Taken from one of the lower terraces near the entrance area, this panorama shows many details of Machu Picchu as well as the surrounding mountains.

630 separate 8MP images went into this panorama.

A superb gigapan and I am utterly astonished to see that I am the first person to make a comment! I just checked out the view in Google Earth and it doesn't work for me (GE 5.1, Vista64). You are taken to the location but there is no gigapan. I just noticed that the horizontal FoV is over 360ยบ. Can this be remedied or have the devs broken something?

Thanks! There's lots of comments on the snapshots, but you're the first for the gigapan itself. The most likely problem with Google Earth is that I only got around to putting the position in. I never got into GE to position the image. IIRC, the "real" FOV would have been more than 180 but less than 270. I'll see if I can at least get that corrected when I get home.

Google Earth FOV should now be 221.8, the value the stitcher shows. I had to enter a non-zero elevation in order to get that change accepted.

Thanks Bruce. That works for me now. I don't know if you have much experience with geocoding but you could probably improve the placement even more if you have the patience.

I've read in the forum about geocoding. I need to sit down and actually do it.
