550 images shot in fast mode (15 min) due to bad weather conditions. This should explain the strange borders of the panorama....
Position of shot wasn't very comfort either: leaning the camera over a handrail 400m above ground to include the view straight down ( http://geoimages.berkeley.edu/worldwidepanorama/wwp608/html/BernhardVogl.html ).
Image pre-aligned with Autopano, final edit and stitch with PTGui at 50% size to stay within TIFF file size limits for Gigapan Uploader - original panorama is ~3.3GPix.
The strange FOV parameters are aresult of adapting the panorama in a rectangular frame.

Hi Bernhard, nice shoot! Why didn't you use the slicer tool and merge the output later with PS? Posted by gigapanbot |

Hi Traugott, Pls. correct me if i'm wrong, but the Gigapan Uploader can only work with (single) TIFF files. So the gigapan.org images are very limited in size. :-) A .psd would be possible to render directly within PTGui or APP. A sliced image is only needed if you're stuck with TIFF or want to render faster. Slices can only be processed by a few tools like the MS HDMake tool. Posted by bvogl |

Right, there are some limitations with the TIFF file format, but you still can save a compressed LZW TIFF file exceeding the PTGUI or PS limitations. You will not be able to open the TIFF file afterwards with PS, but this does not impact the uploader. I did the same with my large 2 Gigapixel images. Posted by gigapanbot |

Gotcha - you're right! You can extend the limits of TIFF pretty much but - as you said - it is non-standard and may lead to a dead end in the next processing step. Best practice IMHO is, to stay near 1Gpix to be on the sure side. As long as there is no widely spread open image format for large images, i'd vote for incorporating the 'slice' approach in the Uploader. This is fairly easy to program and needs no prevalence of a "new technology". ;-) Posted by bvogl |

Yes agree, but I forgot to mention that I save a second copy of the file as "large file format" psb, so I hope I'm still compatible at least with PS2 or 3. Posted by gigapanbot |
