Here is a view from the top of an 89-m-tall giant sequoia in Whitaker Forest just before sunset. Note the contrast between the huge, dome-shaped crowns of large sequoias and the conical crowns of younger sequoias. This forest was partially logged in the 1870s, so the younger trees are about 130 years old. You can also see crowns of several other species, including sugar pine, incense cedar, and white fir.
