Tamgaly (Tonbaly) is an archaeological landscape located in SE Kazakhstan. The area boasts thousands of images carved into the black rocks. The images date as far back as 2000 BCE and include some of the region's best examples of ritualistic prehistoric motifs, such as sun-head figures, scenes of war, hunting, dancing, and more. Zoom into the rock-faces and see what kinds of prehistoric carvings you can find.

some more animal figures, sadly not visible, around the edge of this rock is one of the most spectacular sun-head figures of the whole site! (visible here only as a light smudge! around the left side edge)

Oba's are stacked stones that mark the tops of hills and Mts. They sometimes also mark the burials of ancient warriors. In this case, they are primarily for orientation.

Obas are stacked rocks that sit on top of hills and mountain peaks. They have various functions and meanings across Central Asia and Mongolia, but here they are used first and foremost for orientation. Sometimes here they also mark burlals of ancient warriors.
