View east from the amazing rift zone in Iceland, also a rather historic place as the launch of a democratic government here before 1000 AD.
Ironically, I was setting up the rig, and someone asked, "Is that a Gigapan?" -- the first time someone knew the device. He and his friends had been at Carnegie Mellon Uiversity (where the Gigapan concept was developed) and were packing one of their own.
Small world?

Iceland's regular erupting volcano. The morning light was a bit hazy, and this shot has too much foreground. I was lucky to get anything considering how cold it was and how all the light disappeared in an hour.

Along Road 34 on the southeast edge of Iceland is this fabulous view of the mouth of the Olfusa River as it opens up to meet the Atlantic Ocean. Just two days I was upstream in one of its main sources, the Hvita which tumbles over steep drops at Gulfoss.

Tectonic pulling apart here cause the land to buckle and bulge as it is under tension.
